The festival of Dussehra in various hues 2020-21

One of the most largely celebrated and unique festival in its perception and significance is the  DUSSEHRA festival. It is related to the great epic RAMAYANA, which symbolises Rama’s killing of Ravana signifying the victory of good over evil. It is also related to the story of Goddess Durga killing the demon Mahishasura.

Everyone awaits eagerly for the arrival of this great festival. At Vidya Soudha Public School, Bengaluru, every year we celebrate Dandiya Night bringing the significance of the festival along with fun and frolic. Unfortunately, this year our spirits were dampened by the pandemic covid 19. All of us, be it the teachers, the students and the parents along with the support of the school management celebrated this festival virtually.

The students dressed up in different state costumes very enthusiastically spoke about the festival’s significance, students right from the preparatory to the 10th grade compered the whole programme. They enacted the skit of Sitha Haran, Mahishasura Mardhini, the seven kandas from the Ramayana which were flawlessly depicted highlighting the ethical and moral values to be imbibed by each one of us. Various competitions were conducted prior to the celebrations like making hand puppets, dandiya stick decoration, storytelling etc all related to the Ramayana.

The programme ended with children grooving to the music of dandiya dance , garba all virtually being done safely at their homes and captured on our screens of our laptops.

The message  ‘ The evil pandemic can be won over by our good will of following the safety norms.’
