An industrial visit to Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) was organized on 10th March 2025 for 1st year and 2nd year B.Com and BBA students ( 51 students) from Vidya Soudha Academy of Management to provide them with practical exposure to manufacturing and operational processes. The industry was visited around 2:30 PM on Monday.where in the students were accommodated with 3 teaching staff. KSDL, a government-owned enterprise, is renowned for producing the iconic Mysore Sandal Soap and other detergent products. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world business operations.
The students were given a detailed overview of the soap manufacturing process, which involves several key stages. The process begins with the selection of raw materials, where the primary ingredient, pure sandalwood oil, is sourced from sustainable reserves. Other essential raw materials such as vegetable oils, caustic soda, and glycerin are also used in the formulation. Next, in the saponification process, vegetable oils and caustic soda are mixed and heated to create a soap base. This base undergoes a refining phase where sandalwood oil, perfumes, and other ingredients are blended into the mixture to enhance its fragrance and quality. Once the mixture is prepared, it is poured into molds to form soap bars, which are then left for curing to remove excess moisture. Following the curing process, the soap bars are stamped with the Mysore Sandal Soap logo, signifying their authenticity and heritage. Finally, the finished products are carefully packaged and prepared for distribution, ensuring that the highest standards of quality and presentation are maintained.
